Tooth-Colored Fillings Tulsa
A Holistic Solution for Dental Cavities
In the past, it was standard practice for dentists to use a material called silver amalgam to fill in cavities. While it has some limited benefits, it is also very dark in color. Even worse, it can contain up to 50% mercury, which is a known toxin. Thankfully, most modern dentists have switched to a safer alternative: tooth-colored fillings. Here in our Tulsa holistic dental practice, we use the highest-quality tooth-colored filling materials.

What Are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

The purpose of a dental filling is to fill in a cavity, thereby stopping the decay from spreading and protecting the sensitive inner layers of the tooth. Fillings can be made of various materials. The tooth-colored fillings that we use are composed of biocompatible composite resin, which contains a mixture of BPA-free plastic and ultrafine glass particles. They are completely free of all metals, including mercury.
Not only are tooth-colored fillings safer than amalgam ones, but they also look a lot better! As their name implies, they can be shade-matched to blend in beautifully with the surrounding dentition.
The Process of Getting a Tooth-Colored Filling

The process of getting a tooth-colored filling is pretty straightforward. First, we may numb the portion of your mouth where we will be working. Then, we carefully remove decayed tissue from inside the cavity. We are very careful during this process so we remove as little healthy tissue as possible.
Once the cavity has been prepared, we place the filling material and then harden it with a special curing light. To finish the process, Dr. O’Brien adjusts the filling’s size and shape so it sits flush against your enamel and will not interfere with your bite.
The entire process is quite fast, and you can eat immediately afterward. However, your tooth may be sensitive for a few days, so you may need to consume a mild diet for a while.
The Holistic Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings are amazing! Here are some of their most outstanding benefits:
- Biocompatibility: Tooth-colored fillings are made from materials that are gentle on the body and do not provoke adverse reactions.
- Mercury-Free Safety: These fillings contain no mercury or metals, eliminating concerns about toxicity and long-term health risks associated with metal-based restorations.
- Aesthetic Integration: They blend seamlessly with natural teeth, enhancing confidence and self-esteem without drawing unwanted attention to dental work.
- Preservation of Healthy Tissue: The minimally invasive placement process saves as much natural tooth as possible, maintaining structural integrity and long-term oral health.
- Reduced Sensitivity: Composite materials insulate the tooth against temperature changes, which can lower the risk of discomfort from hot or cold foods.
- Lower Risk of Tooth Damage: Unlike metal, tooth-colored fillings do not expand and contract in response to temperature changes. Therefore, there is less risk of damage to the surrounding tooth structure.
- Durable and Strong: Properly placed tooth-colored fillings resist fractures, providing lasting support while supporting healthy chewing function.
